Original poster for the Broadway play "Dracula"
starring Bela LUGOSI (1928)
Listen to them. Children of the night. What music they make. The Count had a way with words. Dracula entrenched himself into the world’s psyche forever when the film premiered in 1931. However, before the movie, it was a play on Broadway, based on the Abraham “Bram” Stoker 1897 novel of the same name. Hungarian stage actor Bela Lugosi (originally named Bela Blasko) starred in the smash-hit Broadway play when the director’s original choice for the part, Lon Chaney, Sr. died of throat cancer. When Lugosi appeared on screen as Dracula he became the definitive Dracula to everyone. This poster advertises the shows of the week of November 5, 1928 at Ford’s Theatre (Bela was there).
